Man Struck and Killed on Pelham Road Near Met Foods in New Rochelle

UPDATE 1:20 AM: Initial reports were that the man died but Talk of the Sound has confirmed that the man was still alive and breathing when he arrived at Sound Shore Medical Center. As of now, Pelham Road is still closed near Meadow Lane due to accident investigation.

A man was struck and killed tonight at about 7:30 PM by a vehicle while crossing Pelham Road. The man, whose identity has not been disclosed by police, was described as male, black wearing a black jacket and blue jeans.

The man was gravely injured after he was struck by a green Chevrolet Safari van driving southbound near the Siete Ocho Siete restaurant (the old Mamma Francesca restaurant). The front and front right panel of the van was damaged and the windshield cracked.

Witnesses present immediately after the collision described a horrific scene.A stream of blood was clearly visible on the street, running from the center line to the curbside.

New Rochelle police closed off Pelham Road in the area between Meadow Lane and Leland Avenue for several hours.
