County Legislator Jim Maisano Officially Sworn-in for 2012-2013 Term

I think most people believe that elected officials are sworn-in at a public ceremony around January 1, but that is not always true. Our procedure at the Westchester Board of Legislators is that newly elected or re-elected County Legislators are sworn-in by the Westchester County Clerk after the Board of Elections certifies the winners from Election Day.

Here are photos from my official swearing-in ceremony on December 22 with fellow New Rochelle resident, County Clerk Tim Idoni. You will notice a large book in the photos and all County Legislators are required to sign that book during the swearing-in, which contains the signatures of County Legislators going back decades. I was sworn-in with Catherine Borgia, who was newly elected to represent the 9th District. The Board of Legislators is also holding a ceremonial swearing-in at our first meeting for 2012 on January 9 at 7pm and please feel free to stop by.

I am also pleased to report that I was re-elected by the Republican County Legislators to continue serving as Minority Leader for 2012-2013. Gordon Burrows was re-elected to serve as Minority Whip. I greatly enjoy serving in the leadership and am very thankful to my colleagues for their vote of support and confidence.

Thanks again to all the great people from New Rochelle and Pelham that voted for me on Election Day. I know I was unopposed, but I am still honored by your kind support. I am very excited to begin serving my 8th term next week. Please keep in touch over the next two years. Your feedback on the issues facing Westchester always makes me a better and more effective County Legislator.

  1. are they buddies now

Hey is that guy Idoni that beat jim for mayor?he looks different or does he have a brother???

    1. hudson park, you are truly an idiot

you are the epitome of a troll.  None of your posts offer any food for thought. Just poor attempts at "humor" whch fail miserably. Why must you reply to every article with this garbage?  Can't you try to be a little positive? Offer some ideas?

      1. Ha Ha

I'm a troll?Kiss me where the sun don't shine. And if you TOM don't like my posts don't read them.I only asked a question that's all. So like i said before if you don't like my posts don't read them.

      2. Of course that is Tim Idoni

It says right in post that Tim Idoni swore in Maisano, so it is clear that Hudson Park was being a clown.  And yes, Idoni beat Maisano for mayor back in 1990s – so what – I respect anyone that has guts to run for office.  By the way, I remember that race and Maisano was a first time candidate and came close.  The county clerk probably swears in the county legislators, so why even try to make a juvenile comment.  Anyway, when we swear-in candidates of any party for any position, it is not a time to act like a clown, but rather, we should just wish them much success in the coming years.  And Maisano has done a good job for our city for a long time.

      3. Thanks Abe

I only asked a question and then Mr.Tom calls me an IDIOT well tom can go shove it and i was not being a clown or making a juvenile comment. It's funny if it was Noam i was speaking about no one would comment.

      4. Clarification

This is an article about the LEGAL swearing-in ceremony. For the record, the County Clerk swears in everyone elected to the County Board of Legislators. A candidate for office must obtain a document from the Board of Elections showing they were certified the winner, this is presented to the Clerk, and a book (which Jim references) is signed.of Elections and book that is signed which Jim references.

The same thing happens at the City Council level and Congress. There is a legal process and, typically, there is a public event.

The public event is for the cameras and family and friends and all that. It is really for "show" and not required but, of course, what elected official would not want a larger public event for their supporters to attend after all the hard work of runnig a campaign.
