New Rochelle Corners the Market: The Crime & Courts Section of the Sound Shore Express

We were rather surprised to see that in the Thursday, June 14 2012 edition of the Sound Shore Express of the Journal News, seven of the eight articles in the crime blotter were about New Rochelle. The eighth article in the blotter was about a crime committed in Scarsdale. By looking at this particular week’s blotter (barring the Scarsdale piece), we got the impression that the Standard Star was back. The fact is that the Sound Shore Express claims to cover Harrison, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Pelham, Port Chester, Rye, Rye Brook in addition to New Rochelle.

Seven out of eight briefs were written by the same person; Will David. The eighth one was written by Lee Higgins. We wonder if the reason for this unusual representation of New Rochelle in the Crime and Courts section was because it was a rather slow crime week elsewhere, David did not have time to get around to other towns or simply had his work cut out for him here in our home town. Whatever the case may be, it is not good for New Rochelle. The titles of the New Rochelle briefs read as follows:

– Sex Case Moves Up to County Court (Story about the New Rochelle High School Librarian soliciting sex from a sixteen year old student)

– 2 Charged with Robbing Man

– Man charged with taking $11.00 from a Car

– Reward Offered in Gas-Station Heist

– Would-Be Rob Victim Hit with Ball Bat

– Assault Charge Follows Bar Dispute

– Teen Mugged, Robbed of iPhone

  1. to many officers down
That’s what happens when this city is down 50 officers and some nights turn out with 8 cops on the street.City hall is robbing the tax payers of this city

    1. And not enough Downtown!
The increase in crime, the need for more police and a greater police presence Downtown has been growing for years. Now with Talk of the Sound and the voices from New Rochelle being heard by another news source they have no other choice but to print the information now. It appears that New Rochelle can no longer hide behind the vial of selective journalism of the Journal News. They may be waking up. So must The New Rochelle City Council!

      1. Bob Is Right
Check out spotcrime.com on a daily basis and look at the police blotter. The New Rochele Police Dept. has decided to no longer keep its police blotter on its website as of 2012. Wonder why?

Many of the crimes in other towns are being committed by New Rochelle residents, i.e. the criminal assulting victims at area train stations.

Also, midnight to 5AM NRPD police patrols were discontinued in January 2012, due to fiscal restaints. Look all of this up. Think New Rochelle Honda should have a bone to pick?

THe more residents get outraged the sooner it will be to get our once wonderful city back! Get your heads out of the sand, folks! Keep it up Bob!
