NEW ROCHELLE, NY — All hands are on deck on November 11th when Andersen Windows, Murphy Brothers Contracting, ING, Interstate+Lakeland Lumber and Goldman Sachs join Habitat for Humanity of Westchester (HFHWC) during the Veterans blitz build-a-thon. They will add the finishing touches on the first two homes constructed for the HFHWC Veterans’ Initiative.

HFHWC has a major commitment to build for returning Veterans, repair homes for seniors, and hire Veterans. HFHWC currently has four Veterans on staff, Air Force, Marines, Navy, and Army. Five homes are underway and a target for 50 over the next five years. Also building with us is Goldman Sachs and Westchester Bar Association.

“Nobody builds community better than Habitat! At Andersen we’ve been one of their biggest champions for more than 20 years. Building quality, affordable housing for families in need will be a key part of the rebuilding efforts after hurricane sandy. We are honored to partner with our friends at Murphy Brothers Contracting and Interstate+Lakeland Lumber and lend a hand,” said Jerry Redmond, president, Andersen Windows.

“As long time area builders, it was only natural that we responded to the great need to help rebuild after Sandy’s destruction.  Jim Killoran of Habitat called and our team, family and friends responded.  Jim called again…said we need to help our vets… could you say no?
And we’re grateful to our friends… Shelly Kahan at Interstate+Lakeland Lumber and the folks at Andersen… they are what are best about our industry,” stated Chris Murphy, President and Construction Director of Murphy Brothers Contracting.

“ING is strongly rooted to making life better in our communities through volunteerism, corporate social responsibility and transparent business principles. Our ongoing relationship with Habitat for Humanity, and Habitat for Westchester, has allowed us to make a significant impact on the lives of families throughout the region. The welcome-home houses for veterans build-a-thon is another example of the energy with which we embrace the work and recognize that a neighborhood is only as strong as the team who builds it,” said Benjamin Emanuel, Managing Director/Regional Head of Tax-Americas of Financial Holdings Corporation

“When Sean and Chris Murphy called and asked if I would help them out with a home for vets project, I immediately asked, what do you need? To me, the veterans of this country deserve all of the support that we can give them. They are the ones who put themselves in harm’s way so that we can enjoy the freedom that exists in this great country of ours. On behalf of everyone at Interstate+Lakeland Lumber, it is with great pride and pleasure to be part of this project that gives back to someone who gave so much of himself for us,” stated Sheldon Kahan, President of Interstate+Lakel and Lumber.

“Veterans blitz build is on! Veterans’ Village is located at the top of battle hill; we’re taking the hill back for veterans and by veterans!” – Stated Jim Killoran, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Westchester. “It’s an honor to build with groups from all parts of the armed forces.”
