NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Talk of the Sound has learned that New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Bob Marrone is on short list for morning host at the newly formatted WFAS 1230 AM.
A source familiar with the negotiations says Marrone will work the early morning shift on the radio while continuing to run the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce.
Marrone may start as soon as next week, in time to broadcast live from the Westchester Magazine Best of Westchester Event at Glen Island Casino in New Rochelle, NY.
Marrone returns to the local airwaves after a two-year hiatus upon leaving WVOX where he spent ten years, most of them as the host of the Good Morning Westchester Radio Show. Marrone signed off WVOX in November of 2012 and has been working as a communications consultant for the last two years. Marrone hosted Good Morning Westchester for 8 years, starting in 2004. Before that, Marrone worked at Time Warner Cable.
At the time Marrone accepted the position as Executive Director of the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce he spoke with Talk of the Sound.
“I am happy to be back involved in the New Rochelle community,” said Marrone.
WFAS has operated an AM and FM station out of Hartsdale, NY but recently announced plans for a major shakeup.
WFAS-AM 1230 will operate out of a new location in the Bronx.
WFAS-FM recently changed its format to “urban adult” and its called letter to WNBM-FM (“New York’s Best Mix”).
The stations are owned by Cumulus New York which also owns local stations including 77 WABC, 95.5 WPLJ and NASH-FM 94.7.
Prior to his radio career, Marrone worked on Wall Street specializing in corporate communications and training for organizations such as Merrill Lynch, Thomson Financial and the Securities Industry Association.
Marrone is on the faculty of the Connecticut School of Broadcasting and the New York Institute of Finance.
He majored in Political Science at St. John’s University.
Marrone has won numerous awards including “Best Community Program” and “Best Spot News in New York State” from the New York State Broadcasters Association, 2008. March 5th, 2008 was declared Bob Marrone Day in honor of his persistent coverage of local and state affairs.
