NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Those looking for a good cup of coffee or a late night meal or just a place to sit and talk will have to look elsewhere after the Mirage Diner closed for good over the weekend.

The New Year began with the announcement that Iona College had acquired the Mirage Diner as part of a series of acquisitions as part of a planned North Avenue development.

At the time of the announcement in early January, the college said the plan was for the Mirage Diner to remain in operation in accordance with the existing lease.

Nick Triantafillou, owner of the Mirage Diner, told Talk of the Sound that the lease ran for five years. Apparently not.

“They have been a good partner and will develop the land in a way that supports the surrounding area” Triantafillou was quoted as saying in press statement put out by the college ten months ago.

The College will also pay real estate taxes on the Mirage Diner and expects to add additional taxable square footage once the property is developed.

“Iona is committed to increasing the number and quality of student living options at the College” said Charles Carlson, Vice Provost for Student Life.
