The College of New Rochelle’s Jah-Leah Ellis Named HVIAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) has announced that The College of New Rochelle’s Jah-Leah Ellis (Harlem, NY/Hun School of Princeton) has been selected as the HVIAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Ellis kicked off the 2014-15 season by earning Tournament MVP honors at the Women’s College Tip-Off Tournament, hosted by Notre Dame of Maryland University over the weekend. The senior averaged 23.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in the Blue Angels two wins, enabling CNR to repeat as tournament champions. Ellis also earned Tournament MVP honors last season. In the season opener against Cedar Crest, the forward tallied game-highs with 23 points and 12 rebounds, adding four steals and three assists. In the championship game against the host Gators, she again led all scorers, pouring in 24 points in just 22 minutes of action, adding nine rebounds, four steals and two assists. On the week, she shot .586 from the field.

The College of New Rochelle will play its home opener on Friday, November 21, hosting the College of Mt. St. Vincent. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM. The 2014 HVIAC Tournament Championship banner will be unveiled prior to the start of the game.
