Mustangs Baseball Take Three of Five Games Against ASA Including a 10-Run Inning

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe Mustangs baseball team faced regional rivals ASA College in a five-game home-and-home series over the weekend.

On Friday, the ASA Avengers took the first game, 9-6. In the second game, ASA was up 7-2 in the 7th before the Mustangs rallied with 10 runs in the 8th inning. Monroe held of a late rally by ASA to win 12-7.

The following day, the Mustangs traveled to ASA for a double header. They took the first game 7-3. Justin Morales led the team with two runs and an RBI while, on the mound, Alex Vargas had 12 strikeouts and allowing just three runs in seven innings. In the second game, ASA knotted the series at two apiece, winning 6-4.

Sunday night was the rubber game of the match up. Edwin Gonzalez (1.72 ERA) pitched a complete game, finishing the contest with eight strikeouts; allowing three runs and six hits. Gonzalez’ pitching performance was back up by a six-run outburst in the eighth inning led by Johan Mojica with 2 RBIs and Endy Villalona with three RBI’s and one run scored.
