WHITE PLAINS, NY — “We are blessed to have the Pope visit New York,” stated Jim Killoran, CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Westchester. “His mission to help those in poverty and his love of the environment is at the heart of Habitat for Humanity of Westchester’s mission; to help everyone live in a green neighborhood.” Stated Jim Killoran. An anonymous donor helped Habitat to secure the site in partnership with the city of Yonkers.

Habitat is proud to announce our dedication to a leader who wants to end poverty in the world like Habitat does. “We are excited to see the Pope come and visit,” stated Jim Killoran. 100’s of Volunteers are coming out within the next two weeks celebrating the Pope Francis visit in the theology of the hammer. Kicking off the Pope visit we challenge everyone to pick up a hammer and build with us throughout the year!

A formerly foreclosed house at 124 High Street, Yonkers, New York 10703 is being rehabbed in honor of the Pope. The Pope Francis Build-A-Thon begins September 18th through September 26th.

Yonkers City Council President Liam McLaughlin said, “Quality affordable home-ownership is part of what makes Yonkers such an attractive place to live, work and raise a family. Habitat for Humanity supports that common goal while bringing together volunteers from all walks of life who understand Pope Francis’ words that work confers dignity. I hope you’ll consider joining me on this worthy project.”

Parishes from all over are participating, schools, and more. Habitat of Westchester has created a Pope Francis advisory board with Monsignor Keane of Holy Family Church being the honorary chair.

Fordham University, IONA, School of the Holy Child, St. Gabriels, Relig, St. Josephs of Bronxville, Holy Family Parish, St. John & Paul of Larchmont, St. Augustine’s church and St. John’s the Baptist of Yonkers are just of few groups that will be volunteering during our Pope Francis Build-A-Thon. We kick off Friday with 80 staff and teachers from Holy Child building and working. The Build-A-Thon continues until Sept 26th and the house will be built during the year.

Also this weekend, September 19th and 20th St Josephs in Bronxville and Holy family church will be having 2X4 day in honor of his visit and supporting the build of the house.
