Women’s Cross Country Repeats as Regional Champions

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College women’s cross country team, on the heels of a strong overall performance, ran its way to its second-straight Region 15 Championship, in a meet hosted by St. Joseph’s College at Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park, New York, on Saturday. 

Susan Ejore set her third course record of the season and was the overall winner with a time of 19:26.8.  She was named the regional champion  Just behind her at the finish was Nokuthula Dlamini, whom placed second with a time of 19:40.4 and was regional runner-up.  Jrenda Rivera came in third in the Region with a clocking of 22:40.7.

After that, Tashay Roberts finished in 22:56.9, Shavon Fields was fifth (23:12), Princess Guwor posted a time of 23:48.8 and Dominique Swain came in at 24:31.1.

Coach Greene reflected on the team’s overall performance: “The day presented a lot of challenges for us.  It was cold and windy, not to mention having hilly terrain throughout the course. Despite the obstacles our ladies  went out and represented and as a result  earned  the rights to this Championship,  I’m very  proud  of these young ladies .”

The team next competes at the JUCO Northeast Invitational hosted by the CCRI.  The event takes place in Warwick, Rhode Island on Saturday, October 31.
