NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Despite jumping out to a 14-11 lead after one quarter, the College of New Rochelle Womens Basketball team could not hold off the visiting Panthers of Old Westbury. A dominant 21-9 2nd quarter margin by Old Westbury proved to be the difference as the Panthers left New Rochelle with a 68-54 win. CNR falls to 2-5 on the season while Old Westbury improves to 2-1.
CNR was led senior Jasmine Brandon (Jersey City, NJ) who recorded 21 points to lead all players. Sophomore Hannah Cambel (Houston, TX) continuied her hot streak offensively as she added 14. Brandon and Cambel have now hit double digits in scoring in all seven Blue Angel contests this season.
Old Westbury had a well-balanced attack as three players scored in double digits while 11 players made it into the score column. CNR led on the boards 40-39, but Old Westbury outshot the Blue Angels 44 to 31% from the field.
CNR will resume play this Saturday when they play Trinity College (CT) in the Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament at Medgar Evers College. Game time is now set for 6:00pm.
