NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Monroe College has a campus in the Bronx, New Rochelle, Queens and St. Lucia, but with the way the track and field team has performed in Boston this season, they should contemplate opening up a satellite campus there as well because the Mustangs turned in another stellar performance at the David Henry Valentine Invitational at Boston University.
Jaymes Dennison continued his season for the ages. After defeating Olympian Lalonde Gordon earlier in the year in Boston, the Penns Grove, New Jersey native, set a new school mark in the 400 with a time of 47.18. As a result of the time, he qualified for the IAAF Indoor World Championships in Oregon in March. Dennison is the first-ever Monroe athlete to compete at the IAAF.
Four other Monroe athletes qualified for nationals in this meet. Mpho Makofane posted a mile time of 4:14.98, a new school record. Rajay Hinds posted a career-best mark of 1:57.45. The third qualifying time came from Kipkoech Collins when he posted a 2:35.10 in 1000. Finally, the distance medley time of Collins, Hinds, Dennison and Makofane ran a season-best time of 10:22.96.
The Monroe College indoor track and field team returns to action on Saturday, February 27, when they compete at the Last Chance Invite in Staten Island.
