NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Hollywood couldn’t have scripted a better season finale for the Monroe College women’s basketball team on Sunday, as they overcame playing with just four players in the second half, to hang on and defeat Dean College, 65-61, on Sophomore Day.  Prior to the game, Shania Johnson, Brenna Dennis and Gabrielle Jubinville were honored for their service to the program.

Monroe led 18=14 after the first period.  With the score tied at 5-5 with 8:17 left, the Mustangs used an 8-0 run to grab a 13-5 advantage.  The points came from Jubinville (six) and Destini Green (two).  Monroe never relinquished the lead in the second quarter, though their largest advantage was five points when Jubinville made a jumper inside of a minute.  Monroe led at the half, 29-26.

The Mustangs opened the third quarter by pushing the lead back to seven points, thanks to a Camilla Kilinc layup with 8:04 left.  A Green three-pointer at 3:37 gave Monroe its largest lead, 16 points.  Dean chipped away from there and trailed 48-40 at the end of the third.

Dean would take their first lead of the contest in the fourth quarter.  Kilinc fouled out with 3:40 left and Monroe ahead, 57-55.  Dean promptly tied the game and took the lead 0:45 later.  Trailing for most of the fourth quarter and playing four against five, Monroe showed some fight and got key baskets from Kaleah Norwood and Jubinville to come from behind and win 66-61.

Jubinville finished with the game with 30 points.  Kilinc added 13 while Green totaled 11 to go with nine assists.  The team closed out the regular-season with an overall mark of 9-18.
