Mustangs Score 56 Points in the Second Half

Strong Second Half Helps Men’s Basketball Defeat Globe Tech, 91-62

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College men’s basketball team closed out its regular-season on Wednesday with a 91-62 victory at Globe Tech.  The team’s 56, second-half points, catapulted them to a 29-point win.

The Mustangs fell behind early in the contest, trailing by as much as three point in the first four minutes of action.  They would eventually tie the score at 11-11 on a Felix Carlsson free throw at 11:36.  From there, Monroe took the lead and never relinquished it.  They lead by eight points at the half, 35-27.  The largest lead of the half was nine points, and it came on a Charles Wingate steal and put back with 5:42 remaining.

The lead for Monroe reached double-digits just past a minute into the second half when Ran Tut scored on a layup to bring the score to 37-27.  A pair of Lukas Landgren foul shots at 13:17 put the Mustangs up 20, 55-35.  The lead got to 30 points, with 5:51 left, as Tyler Ancrum picked up a steal and finished on the other end.  The largest lead of the game was 31 points.  It first came on a Wingate three-pointer with 3:31 left.  They went on to win 91-62.

In the victory, Will Tavares scored a game-high 15 points.  Tut reached ten and added a pair of blocks.  Ancrum came off the bench to total 11 points and grabbed a game0high four steals.

The Monroe College men’s basketball team returns to action on Saturday, February 27, when they compete at the Region XV Tournament that they are hosting.
