NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Each weekday, the New Rochelle Public Library and the Huguenot Children’s Library continue offering a wide variety of free programs that encourage students to use the library’s rich resources and boost reading abilities while school is out. For details, please visit www.nrpl.org.

In addition to these weekly workshops at both libraries, and daily “Summer Fun on the Patio” at Huguenot Children’s Library, the library offers a number of free cultural programs for all ages  in the Ossie Davis Theater.

The Summer Family Film series begins on Monday, July 11th with the 1933 film, 42nd Street, starring Warner Baxter, Bebe Daniels, George Brent, and Ruby Keeler. The film that launched the Golden Age of Hollywood musicals traces the creation of a Broadway show from its first casting call through its blockbuster opening night.  With choreography staged by Busby Berkeley and a supporting cast that includes Ginger Rogers and Dick Powell, the musical was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture and is ranked 13th on the American Film Institute’s list of best musicals.

The popular International Music and Dance series will open with lively Irish step dancing and Celtic harp music on Tuesday, July 12th, from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm.  The performers will include national competitors from the Deirdre O’Mara School of Irish Dance in Yonkers. The performance takes place in the Ossie Davis Theater at the main library.

The featured Film for the Younger Set, on Wednesday, July 13th, from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm will be the movie, Winnie the Pooh. Based on the classic by A. A. Milne, this 2011 animated adaption will delight children and their parent or caregiver. The movie will be shown in the Ossie Davis Theater at the main library. Later that day, at 2:00 pm, Live Science: Nature in Your Backyard will take place at 2:00 pm on the theater stage and meeting room of the main library. Highlighting the natural treasures found at the Sheldrake Environmental Center, science educator Joyce Kent will lead the hands-on, interactive program for children in grades 2 – 5.
