Iona Volleyball Falls In Five Sets At Canisius

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Iona College wrapped up its western New York trip with a tough five-set loss (27-25, 21-25, 26-24, 19-25, 9-15) to the Canisius College Golden Griffs.  Iona found themselves up 1-0 and 2-1, but the Golden Griffs were able to come back and steal victory from the Maroon & Gold.

With the Gaels up 2-1, the Golden Griffs used a 15-9 run with the score tied at 10 to force the final frame.  There Canisius pounced out in front early and held off any Iona offensive charge.

Sophomore Claire Archibald and senior Karly White each had a team-high 14 kills.  Archibald finished with a hitting percentage of 9.3% and White ended up at 42.3%.  Iona’s middle-blocker chipped in with a team-high five block assists.

Canisius had four players record double-digit digs, but Gael sophomore Jessica Paolucci had a match-high 26.  Archibald had nine digs, and sophomores Emma Rose, Kait Ferretti and Amanda Gannon each had five.

Rose had a team-high 22 assists.  Ferretti finished right behind her with 21 helpers.

Iona is now off until next Saturday, Oct. 15, when its travels to take on Saint Peter’s.  First serve is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
