NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Boys’ Varsity Soccer Team won the Section I championship Saturday by defeating Arlington High School 3-0.
The contest, which took place at Lakeland High School, was the team’s first Section championship since 1996. All the goals were made in the first half of the game, with Cristian Valencia scoring two goals and Leonardo Vargas one.
Omar Espinoza had two assists, and Harwan Alzuabidi helped with the other goal. The New Rochelle defense did not allow Arlington to take a shot on goal.
The team is currently 10-4-4, and their next game is the regional semifinal on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at Lakeland High School against Ithaca High School, the winner of Section IV. The game starts at 6 p.m.
Tickets will be sold at the field. The cost is $8 for students and adults, and $5 for children under 12 and for seniors.
