NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle Department of Special and Alternative Education and New Rochelle SEPTA is hosting the City School District of New Rochelle’s 13th Transition Fair on Monday, March 20, at 5:30 p.m.

The event, which will be held at New Rochelle High School’s House 4 Cafeteria (enter on the entrance near Braemer Avenue), is for students with Individualized Education Programs or 504 plans and parents who are interested in learning more about transitioning from school.

Steve Serio, co-captain of the U.S. Men’s Paralympic team, will provide the keynote speech at 6:15 p.m. He was named “One to Watch” at the Rio 2016 Games by the International Paralympic Committee. He started playing wheelchair basketball a little later in his childhood at 15 years old. He went on to play wheelchair basketball at the University of Illinois for head coach Mike Frogley, who became an instrumental influence in Steve’s career. He just returned to the United States after playing for five seasons with the German club team RSV Lahn-Dill. He played with the New York Rolling Knicks for the 2016-17 season.

The transition fair, which includes a light dinner, will feature many organizations from the surrounding area that help young people with disabilities transition to independent living.

Students who attend the fair will have the opportunity to be entered in a raffle to win an iPad and other prizes. Students can collect a raffle ticket during the fair after speaking to the college/agency representative. The more colleges/agencies they talk to, the more raffle tickets they can obtain.
