NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The popular Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival returns to Pelham Art Center on Saturday, April 1, 2017 from 2:00- 4:00pm! Join us as we celebrate our sixth annual Cherry Blossom Festival (Sakura Matsuri) with family-friendly activities in the traditional arts of Japan, part of Pelham Art Center’s Folk Arts Series. Free and open to the public.

Artist Shoko Iwata of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana will return to lead a traditional Japanese floral design workshop. Participants will be able to take home their celebratory cherry blossom arrangements. In addition, a traditional Japanese Taiko drumming performance will be held in the main gallery from 2:00PM to 2:45PM, featuring the group Taikoza and East Winds, from New York City.

In keeping with the spirit of the day, visitors can contribute to a community “wish tree,” by writing messages of hope and adding them to our collection. Pelham Art Center will then mail the wishes to a central repository of wishes from around the world, becoming part of a greater project organized by Yoko Ono.
