NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The No. 14 seed Iona College men’s basketball team – the back-to-back MAAC Champions – will take on No. 3 Oregon in the Round of 64 as part of the Midwest Region of the 2017 NCAA Championship at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, CA on Friday, March 17. Tip off is scheduled for 2:00 pm ET/11:00 am PT.
Oregon claimed a No. 3 seed after achieving a 29-5 overall mark, and 16-2 in Pac-12 Conference play, tying for a first place finish in the regular season with Arizona. The Ducks were ranked No. 5 in both the USA Today Coaches and AP polls last Monday, March 6.
The winner will take on No. 6 Creighton / No. 11 Rhode Island on Saturday (Mar. 19). The selection marks the 12th NCAA appearance for the Gaels (22-12, 12-8 MAAC) and first back-to-back trips since appearances in 2012 and 2013.
This will be the first meeting between the two programs. This marks the fourth appearance for the Gaels under Head Coach Tim Cluess while the Ducks mark a fifth straight tournament berth.
