NEW ROCHELLE, NY — After seeing its first action since sweeping a doubleheader against UConn Avery Point last Sunday, the Monroe College Baseball team got three home runs to help catapult the Mustangs to their third-straight victory, an 8-0 shutout of Orange County Community College on Thursday. Seven different Monroe pitchers each tossed a scoreless inning, while Wayne Roberts, Shadrach Meulens, and Edgardo Bernard all hit long balls.

The game ended via the eight-run-rule after seven innings. Roberts led the game off with a home run, his first of the year. Three batters later, Troy Davern singled to left. Isaiah Torres followed with an RBI double to left that plated Davern. Monroe led 2-0 after an inning.

Bernard followed up on Roberts’s blast in the first, leading off the second with a homer that brought the score to 3-0. The score went to 6-0 in the fifth. Michael Crispino got on with a double. Isaiah Torres ripped a single. They both came in on a Meulens blast over the wall that traveled nearly 430 feet. The score rose to 7-0 in the sixth, when a James Smith single to left field brought in Roberts.

Kevin Garcia singled to lead off the seventh. He got to second on a Juan Torres walk, moved to third on a fielder’s choice, and came in on an error. Monroe retired Orange in order in the seventh and won 8-0.

On the mound, Edward Nunez pitched the first. Xavier Bilodeau and Oliver Mailloux were the next pitchers. Harry Colon fanned a pair in his inning of work. Jason Alvarez worked a scoreless fifth. Francisco Urena struck out the side in the sixth. Manuel Pizarro pitched the final inning.

The Monroe College Baseball team will return to action on Saturday, April 1st, in a noon doubleheader against Region XV rival ASA College in Jamaica, Queens.
