WHITE PLAINS, NY — FARE’s Food Allergy Heroes Walk, formerly known as the FARE Walk for Food Allergy, will come to Westchester at 1pm on October 14th, 2017 at Glen Island Park. The re-imagined Walk represents FARE’s revitalized commitment to reaching, connecting, and inspiring the city of New Rochelle with food allergies, who are heroes for themselves and their families every day.

Westchester’s Food Allergy Heroes Walk is a community and family-friendly event with a determined and passionate group of participants. At the Walk, hundreds of people will come together in a welcoming environment, unite behind their commitment to FARE’s mission, and raise funds. All Walk proceeds support FARE programs that improve food allergy outcomes through research, education, advocacy and awareness.

“We are thrilled to bring FARE’s Food Allergy Heroes Walk to Westchester and provide a fresh, exciting experience for returning and new walkers,” said FARE Chief Advancement Officer Lois A. Witkop. “Unsung heroes in the food allergy community are everywhere – at home, in schools and in doctor’s offices and clinical labs – and we honor their passion and spirit through this event, which will enable FARE to make an even bigger impact.”

For more than a decade, walkers across the nation have been a part of growing movement to broaden awareness of food allergy as a serious public health issue and raise much-needed funds to address gaps in research and other programs. Together, walkers have raised more than $25 million since the inception of the Walk in 2004. These funds have supported cutting-edge food allergy research, world-class educational programs that help individuals live well with food allergies, advocacy initiatives that have expanded access to life-saving epinephrine and awareness campaigns that have elevated the profile of food allergy nationally.

Michelle Isban, Westchester’s Walk Co-Chair, said that “This event is so important for bringing together children of all ages who have food allergies. It makes them understand they are not alone. Having people support them in an inclusive, fun environment brings so much joy to their faces. It is so great to see everyone come together to support these Heroes, FARE and its mission!”
