NEW ROCHELLE, NY — In May, a woman from New Rochelle who lives in Germany was looking for a way for a way for her 87 year old mother to socialize and get out of her house more. At the suggestion of Professor Carl Procario-Foley, the Director of the Office of Mission and Ministry at Iona College, she contacted us. Her mother is now a member, attending our events, and receiving our services.
This is not the first time an out-of-town relative has reached out on behalf of a parent living in New Rochelle. In 2016 we received a call from Philadelphia from Glenn Bergman, inquiring about the services we might be able to provide to his 98 year old mother. For a year and half we took his mom grocery shopping weekly and she attending many events, including a 99th birthday celebration at our picnic dinner last July. Regrettably, she has since moved to Philadelphia because it was no longer safe for her to live alone, but she fully enjoyed her time with us and continues to support our organization. Mr. Bergman expressed his appreciation in a letter to us saying: “My mother considers her independence and freedom to be the most important goal….I want to thank New Rochelle Cares for their dedication to assisting people to age in their own homes. You have extended her life.”
New Rochelle Cares AIP is a volunteer run not-for-profit organization dedicated to giving New Rochelle residents 60 and over the practical means and social support to remain in their homes and in the community by providing for the primary needs of our seniors: transportation and socialization.
