Michael Greco is first to rise from Volunteer to become Chief of Department

PELHAM MANOR, NY (June 29, 2022) — Pelham Manor has a new Fire Chief as Michael Greco succeeded Joseph Ruggiero.

Greco was sworn in Tuesday by Mayor Jennifer Lapey at a Board of Trustees Meeting.

A Pelham Manor resident and a 1992 graduate of Pelham Memorial High School, Chief Greco is the first person to start as a volunteer firefighter and work his way through all ranks to become Chief of Department.

Mayor Lapey and Trustee/Fire Commissioner Joseph Senerchia spoke about Chief Greco’s incredible competency and demonstrated commitment to our community.

During his tenure as a firefighter and Captain, Chief Greco assisted Chief Joseph Ruggiero in working with Seagrave Fire Apparatus to rebuild Tower Ladder 3, played an integral part of the automatic aid agreement with the FDNY, and wrote several grants, securing over $350,000 for fire equipment. Chief Greco also brought back the Fire Prevention program to Pelham Manor elementary schools. Most recently, working with a communications consultant, he revamped Pelham Manor’s fire communications technology, ushering in a new radio communications system which coordinates with Westchester County’s system.

Chief Greco holds several nationally recognized training certificates including Fire Officer 1, Fire Officer 2, Fire Instructor 1 and Fire Instructor 2. He continues his professional training through the National Fire Academy and the Westchester Fire Academy. Closer to home, Chief Greco enjoys spending time with his family and is widely known for his volunteerism in organizations such as the Boy Scouts. In addition, he spearheads the Pelham Manor Fire Department’s annual toy drive for children in need.
