NEW ROCHELLE, NY (November 8, 2022) — A man was shot in the leg and seriously injured, suffering multiple gunshot wounds, in front of the Bracey Apartments at 345 Main Street, just around the corner from a polling place on election day.

The shooting occurred shortly after 1 p.m..
Several witnesses described hearing multiple gun shots, anywhere from four to six. A man in front of 345 Main Street engaged in a conversation with someone or some persons in a black car. When the person turned away from the car someone inside the car fired multiple shots, striking the victim once in the leg.
Police were overheard discussing the possibility that today’s shooting might be related to the October 25 killing of James Caldwell, Jr., who performed under the name Boogie Nation.
NRPD has yet to issue a statement for what is an active investigation. The Forensics Unit arrived on scene shortly before 2:00 p.m. Blood stains were visible in the street and on the grass near the sidewalk.
New Rochelle Police closed off Main Street between Franklin Avenue and Echo Avenue and Harrison Street between Main Street and NRFD Firehouse #1, which is a polling place for today’s elections.
The shooting occurred across the street from Monroe College. Two senior officials and a school security guard rushed to the aid of the victim. According to the school officials, the victim was struck on the inside of his right thigh and was bleeding profusely with blood pumping out of a gunshot wound, possibly the femoral artery. The security guard applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding.
The victim was transported by EMS to an area hospital.
New Rochelle Fire Department Firehouse #1 at 45 Harrison Street is a polling place. Poll workers heard the dispatcher call a GSW (gun shot wound) dispatch to 345 Main Street but voters continued to cast votes without interruption.
Police narrative: on November 8th, 2022, at about 1:12pm, New Rochelle Police received a call of shots being fired in front of 345 Main Street. Responding Officers located one victim with multiple gunshot wounds, conscious and alert, on the public sidewalk in front of 345 Main Street. Officers rendered first aid and New Rochelle Fire and EMS personnel arrived and continued life saving measures.
The victim, a 22-year-old male from Mount Vernon, NY, was transported to a local hospital for treatment where he is listed as in stable condition. His name is not being released at this time.
New Rochelle Detectives believe the victim was the intended target of the shooter.

UPDATED Police narrative: The victim, a 22-year-old male originally from Mount Vernon and whom Detectives have now learned to be a recent New Rochelle resident, was shot 3 times and is in stable condition. The suspect fled in a dark colored sedan and Detectives believe there were multiple occupants in the vehicle at the time.
