29-Year-Old Man Fatally Shot in New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY (October 26, 2022) — A New Rochelle man is dead after suffering multiple gunshot wounds yesterday evening.

UPDATE 10-27 2:25 PM: NRPD has identified the victim as James Caldwell. He performed under the name Boogie Nation.

The shooter(s) fled the scene. Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Police closed off the area as a crime scene for hours.

Police narrative:

​On October 26, 2022, at about 5:54pm, New Rochelle Police received multiple calls of shots fired, and that a person was shot near the intersection of Horton Avenue and Colonel Lee Archer Boulevard. Upon arrival, New Rochelle Police located a person on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. New Rochelle Police, Fire and Ambulance personnel administered first aid and the victim was transported to a local hospital. The victim, a 29-year-old male resident of New Rochelle, ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

New Rochelle Detectives are actively investigating this incident and encourage anyone with any information relating to this shooting to call New Rochelle Police Headquarters at 914-654-2300.

The name of the victim is being withheld at this time and will be released after the family is fully notified.

UPDATE 12/6/22:

New York State Crime Stoppers narrative: On October 26, 2021 Mtayari Z. Dixon (DOB 12/20/1992) shot and killed a male victim (Caldwell) in the area of Horton Avenue in New Rochelle, and immediately fled the area on foot. He was last observed on video surveillance entering the northbound Metro North train in New Rochelle and entering his residence in Stamford CT later that evening.

Dixon’s last known address is Tresser Boulevard in Stamford, CT.

New Rochelle Police Detectives recovered several 9 mm casings from the scene. The firearm has not yet been recovered.

The suspect is not known to drive but may use public transportation. Suspect has ties to New Rochelle, Stamford CT, as well as both Georgia and South Carolina.

He is known to use an alias of “MT” or “MT Beats”.
