EAST LYME, CT (March 31, 2026) — The East Lyme Police Department announced the arrest of three individuals following a lengthy investigation into a sophisticated bank fraud operation. The arrests occurred at the Charter Oak Credit Union on Main Street in Niantic.
Trayvon Robinson, 34, from Waterbury, and his accomplices, Jalan Hayle, 26, also from Waterbury, and Terique Clarke, 26, from New Rochelle, N.Y., were apprehended before Robinson could open a fraudulent account. All three have been charged with forgery-related crimes.
According to police, the men are part of a larger criminal enterprise using counterfeit documents to open accounts at various branches of the Charter Oak Federal Credit Union. They allegedly obtained names and telephone numbers of bank customers, posed as corporate security officers, and convinced victims to divulge personal account information, which was then used to transfer money into newly established accounts.
East Lyme Police credited relentless police work and assistance from corporate security officers in conducting the investigation. A police statement warned, “Let us be perfectly clear: if you’re committing fraud, you are not smarter than the system – you’re just next.”
