NEW ROCHELLE, NY (April 2, 2026) — A New Rochelle woman was arraigned Thursday on a felony assault charge in connection with a downtown stabbing that left a man seriously injured, according to court records and prior reporting.
Ijahnee Simmons, 28, is charged with one count of second-degree assault, a felony, under New York Penal Law § 120.05(4), described in court records as recklessly causing serious physical injury with a weapon.
The charge stems from an April 1, 2026 incident in a building on Church Street in downtown New Rochelle.

NRPD UPDATE: “On April 1st, 2026, at about 8:35pm, New Rochelle Detectives arrested Ijahnee Simmons for Assault 2nd Degree in regards to this incident. After a thorough investigation detectives determined that Simmons assaulted the victim during a domestic dispute. The victim’s name is not being released at this time.”
A 31-year-old man was found bleeding heavily after an altercation that began inside an apartment before he fled and collapsed in the building lobby and outside on the sidewalk. He sustained a puncture wound to the upper leg, possibly involving a nicked artery, and underwent surgery for significant blood loss. He was reported to be in stable condition.
Simmons was taken into custody at the scene. Authorities have described the incident as a domestic matter, and the exact circumstances remain under investigation.
Court records show Simmons was arrested on April 1 by the New Rochelle Police Department.
At her arraignment on April 2 before Judge Jared R. Rice in New Rochelle City Court, Simmons pleaded not guilty. The court issued a temporary order of protection and set bail at $10,000 cash, $20,000 insured bond, or $30,000 partially secured surety bond. Bail was set, according to court records.
Records from the Westchester County Department of Correction show Simmons was booked into custody on April 2, 2026, at approximately 7:04 p.m. and remained in custody as of 8:22 p.m. that evening. She is being held at the county facility in Valhalla.
Simmons is represented by the Legal Aid Society of Westchester. The case is being prosecuted by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.
A felony hearing is scheduled for April 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in New Rochelle City Court.
According to court records, Simmons was born in 1997.
