PORT CHESTER, NY (October 25, 2023) — Governor Kathy Hochul announced the groundbreaking of Westchester Crossing in Port Chester, a redevelopment initiative at the former United Hospital site. The project is expected to produce 957 new housing units, including 105 affordable homes, supported by up to $10 million from the Mid-Hudson Momentum Fund.

The $65 million project will upgrade utilities, improve roadway access, and prepare the site for new residential and community development. “This groundbreaking marks an important step forward in transforming an underutilized site into a vibrant mixed-use community,” Hochul said.

State and Local Support

Empire State Development President Hope Knight emphasized the importance of strategic investments in site readiness. New York State Homes and Community Renewal Commissioner RuthAnne Visnauskas highlighted Port Chester’s role as a certified Pro-Housing Community.

State Senator Shelley B. Mayer and Assemblymember Steven Otis expressed enthusiasm for the development’s potential to revitalize Port Chester. “Congratulations to the Westchester Crossing development team on today’s important groundbreaking ceremony,” Otis said.

Infrastructure and Future Plans

The redevelopment includes significant infrastructure improvements, such as new water, sewer, and stormwater systems, and enhancements to Boston Post Road. Once complete, the infrastructure will support phased vertical development. Construction is expected to be completed in 2027.

Governor Hochul’s housing agenda aims to address New York’s housing crisis, with efforts including the Pro-Housing Community Program, which provides funding to certified localities like Port Chester.

Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins and Village of Port Chester Mayor Luis Marino praised the project’s potential for economic growth and community enhancement. The Mid-Hudson Regional Economic Development Council Co-Chairs Marsha Gordon and Kristine Young also lauded the investment in regional infrastructure.
