RYE, NY (June 7, 2026) — A $39.7 million pavement improvement project has begun on Interstate 95 between Mamaroneck and Rye in Westchester County, part of a broader effort by New York State to rehabilitate the heavily traveled New England Thruway corridor.
Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the start of the project, which will repair and resurface sections of I-95 used by an average of approximately 120,000 vehicles each day. Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2027. (Governor Kathy Hochul)
“As the highway construction season begins, New York State is investing in its roads to ensure a reliable ride for motorists,” Hochul said. “Interstate 95 is a critical commuter and commercial corridor not only in Westchester but for the entire Northeast. This project will ensure smoother travel for tens of millions of motorists each year.” (Governor Kathy Hochul)
According to the governor’s office, the project will repair and resurface I-95 in both directions between Mamaroneck and Rye. Northbound work will extend from just past Exit 18, serving White Plains and Fenimore Road, to just before Exit 20 in Rye. Southbound work will occur between Exits 18B and 18. (Governor Kathy Hochul)
Additional improvements will include installation of precast concrete pavement slabs in selected locations, guiderail and concrete barrier work, new pavement markings and two new overhead sign structures. The project covers more than 12 lane miles. (Governor Kathy Hochul)
The project is the latest phase of a series of major investments along the Westchester portion of I-95.
According to the New York State Thruway Authority, a $61.8 million project that repaved 24 lane miles and rehabilitated 11 bridges and ramps between the Bronx and Pelham Manor was substantially completed in 2025. A separate $86.7 million pavement improvement and bridge rehabilitation project between Pelham Manor and Mamaroneck began in 2025 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. New York State Thruway Authority Executive Director Frank G. Hoare said the agency has launched three projects worth nearly $200 million on its 15-mile stretch of I-95 since 2023.
“Under Governor Hochul’s leadership, the Thruway Authority continues to deliver on our pledge to strengthen our infrastructure,” Hoare said. “Since 2023, we have been laser-focused on our 15-mile stretch of I-95, launching three projects worth close to $200 million to resurface virtually all of its pavement along with rehabilitating numerous bridges and other infrastructure from the Bronx to Westchester. These highway investments enhance safety and resiliency.” (Governor Kathy Hochul)
JRCruz Corp. was selected as the contractor following a competitive bidding process, according to the governor’s office. (Governor Kathy Hochul)
State Sen. Shelley Mayer said the project would improve safety and travel conditions for motorists who use the highway daily.
“I hear nearly every day from constituents expressing their frustrations and concerns about the condition of our roads and the impact deteriorating infrastructure has on their daily commutes and safety,” Mayer said. “This investment will help ensure that the thousands of residents, workers, and visitors who rely on I-95 each day can travel more safely and efficiently, keeping our communities connected.” (Governor Kathy Hochul)
