NEW ROCHELLE, NY (June 7, 2026) — The Centre Avenue Bridge over Interstate 95 in downtown New Rochelle is scheduled to close to both vehicles and pedestrians for approximately 2.5 months beginning June 29 as part of a New York State Thruway construction project.
The closure was announced by the City of New Rochelle in a roadway alert advising residents of the upcoming work.
According to the city, construction on the Centre Avenue Bridge will begin Monday, June 29. The bridge will be closed to both pedestrian and vehicular traffic for approximately 2.5 months.
The city said work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., weather permitting.
Detours for westbound traffic will route motorists via Memorial Highway, Division Street, Union Avenue and Warren Street.
Eastbound traffic will be detoured via Warren Street, Union Avenue, Memorial Highway and Huguenot Street.
Pedestrians also will be detoured via Warren Street, Union Avenue, Memorial Highway and Huguenot Street.
The closure will divert traffic onto several downtown streets, including Memorial Highway, a major connector to Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital.
The bridge closure also comes as the city is advancing Phase One of the LINC project, which the city’s 2026 Work Plan describes as focused on traffic calming, pedestrian safety and community connection along the Memorial Highway corridor. The work plan lists final design for the second quarter of 2026 and construction for the fourth quarter of 2026.
