NEW YORK, NY (June 18, 2026) — The Metropolitan Transportation Authority closed two Lower Manhattan subway stations and added extra Metro-North trains, including stops in New Rochelle and Port Chester, to handle crowds attending the New York Knicks championship parade Thursday, according to the agency.
The Wall Street and City Hall subway stations closed at 4:30 a.m. Thursday and were expected to reopen by about 5 p.m., following the parade and a ceremony at City Hall, the MTA said.
At the request of the NYPD, some entrances and exits were closed at the Chambers Street, Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall, Park Place, Fulton Center and Bowling Green stations, though trains continued to stop there, according to the MTA. The agency said it would be prepared to add extra trains on unspecified subway lines after the parade if passenger volumes warranted it.

Some New York City buses were also subject to route diversions because of the parade route, and customers were directed to check mta.info for updates.
On the Harlem Line, Metro-North added an extra train departing North White Plains at 7:32 a.m., with stops in White Plains, Hartsdale, Scarsdale, Crestwood and Bronxville, arriving at Grand Central Terminal at 8:19 a.m., the railroad said.
On the New Haven Line, an extra train departed Stamford at 6:52 a.m., stopping in Greenwich, Port Chester and Rye before arriving at Grand Central at 7:53 a.m. Seven additional trains made extra stops at stations including New Rochelle, Stamford, Rowayton, Darien and Fairfield-Black Rock between 5:47 a.m. and 7:46 a.m. to add capacity, according to the MTA.
On the Hudson Line, an extra train departed Greystone at 7:49 a.m., stopping at Glenwood, Yonkers, Ludlow, Riverdale, Spuyten Duyvil and Marble Hill, and arrived at Grand Central at 8:29 a.m.
Frequent Metro-North service was available until approximately 2 a.m. to carry fans home after the parade and celebrations, the MTA said.
The MTA also imposed an alcohol ban on Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road trains and station platforms from 5 a.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday. Alcohol consumption and open containers are always prohibited throughout the subway system, the agency noted.
Customers were encouraged to check mta.info, the MTA App and TrainTime app before traveling.
