NEW ROCHELLE, NY (October 3, 2023) — Chief of Department and Fire Commissioner Andrew Sandor is set to retire from the New Rochelle Fire Department after a distinguished 30-year career.
Chief Sandor began his service on February 29, 1996, following his time in the United States Marine Corps. During his tenure, he advanced through the ranks, achieving the position of Chief of Department and Fire Commissioner in June 2018.
Under Sandor’s leadership, the department navigated significant changes as New Rochelle experienced rapid growth. He implemented new policies to handle the demands of high-rise construction and increased call volumes, prioritizing safety.
Among his achievements, Sandor increased the department’s minimum staffing levels and emphasized comprehensive training, ensuring preparedness for diverse emergencies. The department maintained a fully staffed Rescue Company and Fire Investigation Unit under his guidance.
Reflecting on his career, Sandor expressed pride in leading a team of 161 dedicated firefighters serving New Rochelle around the clock. His leadership has left a lasting impact on the department.
