NEW ROCHELLE, NY (June 26, 2026) — City Manager Wilfredo Melendez announced the appointment of Joseph Sinatra as the new Chief of the New Rochelle Fire Department, effective immediately.
Sinatra was sworn in on June 26 during a Change of Command Ceremony, succeeding outgoing Fire Chief Andy Sandor, who is retiring after 30 years of public service.
“I am excited to work closely with Joseph Sinatra in his new role as our new Fire Chief,” Melendez said. “He has demonstrated the knowledge, temperament and dedication required of a leader and I’m confident that he will work to ensure the New Rochelle Fire Department continues to distinguish itself as one of the finest in the State of New York.”
A New Rochelle native and New Rochelle High School graduate, Chief Sinatra joined the department in 2004. He has risen through the ranks from firefighter to Deputy Chief, known for his professionalism and safety-focused leadership.
Since November 2025, Sinatra has led the Support Services Division, managing Safety and Training, and the department’s budget and procurement. He has also contributed to the Westchester County Career Chiefs Fire Academy.
Chief Sinatra, who resides in New Rochelle with his wife, Brittany, and their children, remains committed to the department’s growth and service to the community.
