PELHAM, NY (September 11, 2026) — Pelham Art Center will open “Beneath the Visible,” an exhibition curated by Alexandra Rutsch Brock, on Sept. 17. The exhibition will remain on view through Oct. 25, with a free public opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 17.
The exhibition explores unseen processes of growth, erosion, memory and change that shape the natural world and people’s experience of it.
“Beneath the Visible” brings together six artists whose work engages with nature as process, material, memory and transformation. The featured artists are Jason Rohlf, Alyse Rosner, Kathy Rutsch, Denise Sfraga, Barbara Weiss and Judith Witlin.
Their works move between surface and depth, growth and decay, and presence and absence, using varied approaches and materials to consider nature as collaborator, metaphor and force.
“Together, these artists ask us to slow down and look closely—to notice textures, traces, layers, and subtle shifts,” Rutsch Brock said. “Their works move between the tangible and the imagined, revealing that what we see is only part of a larger process.”
She added that the artists show nature as something people “inhabit, participate in, and carry within us,” with growth, decay, memory and transformation forming interconnected cycles.
Pelham Art Center will also participate in the annual ArtsFest on Oct. 17. The center will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with Rutsch Brock on site to discuss the exhibition and answer questions.
An artist talk is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 22.
Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The center is normally closed Sundays but will be open Oct. 25, the final day of the exhibition. _Press Release_ Beneath the Visible.pdf
