Rye Police Arrest Trio After Stolen Vehicle Chase

RYE, NY (August 18, 2026) — Police in Rye arrested three individuals after recovering a stolen vehicle and conducting a multi-agency search Tuesday.

At about 8:35 a.m., Rye Police were alerted by the Westchester County Real Time Crime Center about a stolen vehicle entering Rye from Mamaroneck on Boston Post Road. Police located the vehicle, which failed to stop, eventually becoming disabled in a marshy area near the St. Regis Residences.

Four occupants, two males and two females, fled on foot. Rye Police quickly apprehended the two females and later located a third suspect between Summit Health and The Osborn retirement community. A fourth suspect was found by a Westchester County Police Bloodhound and taken into custody without incident.

Jamar L. Smith, 24, of the Bronx, the vehicle’s operator, faces multiple charges, including Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. Kennedie C. Brown, 21, of the Bronx, and Tyvaughn D. Holmes, 25, of Brooklyn, were charged with Obstructing Governmental Administration. A juvenile passenger was released to a family member.

Detective Sergeant Chris Salguero emphasized the importance of the coordinated response, saying, “We are thankful to all of our surrounding law enforcement partners for their assistance.”
