RYE, NY (October 11, 2026) — Rye native and Baltimore Orioles Hall of Fame inductee B.J. Surhoff is the subject of the debut documentary in Legends of Westchester, a new series from Origins.

The series explores the people, places and relationships that shaped the lives of notable Westchester County residents. Produced by Manderson PR Productions, the project launches with Surhoff’s story, examining his experiences before and after his Major League Baseball career, his family and his commitment to autism advocacy.

Surhoff was the first overall selection in the 1985 MLB draft. The documentary, filmed in Rye and Maryland, including Camden Yards, features baseball legend Cal Ripken Jr. and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, a former Rye High School classmate of Surhoff.

A central focus of the film is Pathfinders for Autism, an organization co-founded by Surhoff and his wife, Polly, to support individuals with autism and their families. The documentary explores how family relationships, friendships and personal experiences influenced Surhoff’s life beyond professional baseball.

The City of Rye and Mayor Josh Nathan will host a hometown screening of the documentary. A separate public screening is planned for the Westchester County Center, with free admission for Westchester County public high school students. Dates and additional details will be announced separately.

The Legends of Westchester series also features Saniya Chong of Ossining, a three-time NCAA basketball champion and former WNBA player, and Art Monk of White Plains, a Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee.

Wayne Anderson, a University at Albany Sports Hall of Fame inductee, created Origins to document the connections between extraordinary individuals and the communities that helped shape their lives. The platform’s creators envision expanding the documentary format nationally and beyond sports.

Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins expressed support for the project’s emphasis on community and personal achievement.

“Storytelling can celebrate the people who have helped shape our communities while inspiring the next generation,” Jenkins said.
