LARCHMONT, NY (October 14, 2026) — Governor Kathy Hochul announced that the Village of Larchmont will receive $4.8 million to enhance pedestrian, bicycle, and accessibility infrastructure along the Chatsworth Avenue, Larchmont Avenue, and Vanderburgh Avenue corridors. The funding is part of a larger initiative to support alternative transportation options across New York State.

The awards, totaling more than $97 million, are aimed at facilitating non-motorized modes of travel such as walking and biking, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The funds are administered through the Federal Highway Administration’s Transportation Alternatives Program and overseen by the New York State Department of Transportation.

“These investments in alternative modes of travel will help New Yorkers leave their cars at home and make it easier to walk or bike to their destinations, which will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect our environment,” Governor Hochul said.

The Larchmont project is part of a broader effort to improve safety and accessibility across the state, with funding supporting 35 separate projects in various communities.

Senator Shelley Mayer expressed her satisfaction with the funding, stating, “I am pleased that the Village of Larchmont will receive nearly $5 million in state funding to make important improvements along the Chatsworth Avenue, Larchmont Avenue, and Vanderburgh Avenue corridors. These investments will enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety, improve accessibility, and help ensure that residents can travel through our community safely and comfortably.”

Village of Larchmont Mayor Brigid Brennan also extended her gratitude, noting, “This investment will make crossing safer for all residents, including a local family whose two color-blind children will benefit from clearer signals and greater confidence when crossing our streets.”
