WESTCHESTER, NY (October 21, 2026) — The Empire Center for Public Policy’s annual What They Make 2026 report, released this week, shows that 400 local government employees outside New York City were paid more than $300,000 in fiscal year 2025-26. Most of the state’s highest earners work for Long Island police departments, but the same underlying payroll data—drawn from filings with the New York State and Local Retirement System—covers every county, city, town, and village.

Using that data on SeeThroughNY.net, we ranked the highest-paid municipal employees across the Soundshore communities of Pelham, Pelham Manor, New Rochelle, the Village of Mamaroneck, the Town of Mamaroneck, Larchmont, Rye Brook, the City of Rye, and Port Chester.

The similar names can be confusing because these are separate governments with separate payrolls. The City of Rye is an independent city that became a city in 1942 and is not part of the Town of Rye; the Town of Rye contains the Village of Port Chester, the Village of Rye Brook, and the Rye Neck section of the Village of Mamaroneck. The Village of Mamaroneck has its own government and police department, with part of the village (Rye Neck) lying in the Town of Rye and the rest in the Town of Mamaroneck.
