KINGS POINT, NY —- In their first game in over a week, and just their second in over two weeks due to weather and injuries, The College of New Rochelle kept pace with the US Merchant Marine Academy over the first 20 minutes, but ran out of gas in the second half, dropping a non-conference game to the Mariners at Liebertz Gym.
Caitlin Harrison paced the Blue Angels with 12 points and 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.
USMMA had an even scoring output, led by 14 points from Jenna Wetherington and seven rebounds from Tichina Carmon.
The Blue Angels jumped out to a 5-0 lead courtesy of a Ja’Nasha King jumper and traditional three point play. A Caitlin Harrison made the score 7-2 with 16:42 to play before USMMA used a 14-4 run to take a 16-11 lead with 8:33 left before the break. The two teams played evenly over the rest of the half, with the Mariners taking a three point, 26-23, lead into the locker room.
The second 20 minutes saw the Mariners hold all of the momentum, as USMMA outscored CNR 42-12 to emerge with the win.
The Blue Angels next play on Tuesday, February 10, hosting Yeshiva University in a HVIAC game slated to begin at 8:00 PM. CNR seniors Jah-Leah Ellis and Alyssa Pechin will be recognized prior to the start of the game.
