Iona Softball Completes Road Swing At Loyola Marymount

LOS ANGELES, CA — The Iona College softball team completed its last two non-conference games of their California tour. The Gaels dropped game one to Fairleigh Dickinson 7-5, before falling in game two against Loyola Marymount 2-0.

In the first of the doubleheader, Iona managed seven hits with two coming from senior Brianna Schauer, who went 2-4 at the plate, with three runs batted in. Sophomore Kristen Turner scored two runs, including a homer to left center with a run batted in. Senior Allison Hand and sophomore Ashlyn Morris scored a run apiece.

After a 1-1 tie in the first inning, the Knights took the lead, scoring six unanswered runs. Junior Jordan Courage took the loss for the Maroon & Gold, going 3.1 innings, giving up three earned runs, and walking one batter.

In the next match, the Gaels were only able to achieve 3 hits, coming from Hand, Morris and junior Brianna King. Hand and Morris went 1-3, both with a single. Redshirt sophomore Christine Costello took the loss for Iona, going six innings, giving up two earned runs, and walking two batters. The game’s pivotal moment came in the second inning when Loyola’s Caitlin Harman hit a homer to left, scoring the only two runs of the contest.

The team returns to Iona to host Army for their first home game of the season on Tuesday, Mar. 24 at 3:00 pm.
