NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The College of New Rochelle Women’s Volleyball team ran its winning streak to five straight Thursday in non-league action.  The Blue Angels swept the visiting College of Staten Island Dolphins in straight sets to improve to 8-4 overall.  CSI drops to 5-5.

In a match plagued by Dolphin miscues, CNR didn’t need many kills to pull off the 25-15, 25-18, and 25-12 result.  Sophomore Fabiola Padilla Rios (San Juan, PR) led all players with nine kills and nine service aces. Four other Blue Angels each added three service aces which caused 24 receiving errors for Staten Island.

Junior Melanie Ann Lopez Soto (Gurabo, PR) finished the night with 13 assists while classmate Tiany Perez Diaz (Juncos, PR) led the way on the floor with 11 digs.

In the final set, CSI seemed poised to give the Blue Angels a battle as they jumped to an early lead.  But at 5-5, freshmen Stephanie Garcia (Chino, CA) served three straight points, including two of her three aces to push CNR in front.  They would never look back as Perez Diaz added three straight aces soon after to make it 14-7.  With the score 17-12, Padilla Rios served out the final eight points to give CNR the win.

CNR is back in action with its fourth straight home contest when it hosts Pratt Institute and Davis College in a HVIAC league tri-match Saturday at the Wellness Center.
