NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Iona College has confirmed that Head Women’s Soccer Coach Linda Hathorn has resigned 12 games into the 2015 season. The move came amidst complaints, sources say, from parents and players quitting the team.
“Brad Bolton will be the interim head coach going forward,” said Brian Beyrer, Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Communications at Iona College.
Hathorn was hired in 2013 after serving as assistant coach at the University of Maine. She previously coached at Valparaiso, Northern Arizona and Regis.
Hathorn played for the University of Maine. She was a two-time America East Defender of the Year and named to the Maine Athletics Hall of Fame.
In 2008, Hathorn was instrumental in helping Northern Arizona win its first Big Sky Conference championship in program history and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship.
Hathorn was on the Canadian Senior Women’s National Team in 2003 and 2004 and played in the Women’s World Cup in 2003 and also won a silver medal in the Pan American games. Aside from her Canadian National Team experience, she played for the Ottawa Fury of the W-League from 2003-2006.
A 2005 graduate of Maine, Hathorn was named an All-Rookie team member in 2001 and earned a spot on the All-Conference team in 2002, 2003 and 2005. She was also an All-Academic selection all four years in addition to an ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team pick as a senior.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and physical education in 2005. Hathorn has obtained her NSCAA advanced national coaching license in 2008, USSF national “B” license, and completed her USSF National “A” Coaching License in 2011.
