NEW ROCHELLE, NY —  A balanced scoring attack and another strong defensive effort lifted the Monroe College women’s soccer team to a 5-0 win over Louisburg College on Saturday in New Rochelle.  The team won its seventh-straight game and improved to 7-1 on the season as five different players scored for the Mustangs.

Monroe opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Gabriela Braga took a pass from Aline Delima and buried the ball in the back of the net, giving the Mustangs a 1-0 lead.  Ten minutes later, Maia Williams made the score 2-0 as she connected on an unassisted marker.  The goal from Williams was her fifth-straight game in which she scored.  The final goal of the half came at 38:41 when Elysa Vierla found Delima who scored.  The defense didn’t concede a shot in the first 45 minutes.  Monroe led 3-0 at the half.

The Mustangs scored twice more in the second half.  Kaitlyn Shea put a ball to Sabrina Cardona who found the back of the net in the 80th minute, giving Monroe a 4-0 advantage.  The final goal of the contest came at 86:25 when Cardona returned to favor to Shea.  Monroe won 5-0.  They out shot Louisburg, 23-0 and took 9 corner kicks to none from the Lions.  Jordan Wainwright and Tiffany Martinez earned another clean sheet as they didn’t have to make any saves in the win.  The backline didn’t allow a shot in the entire contest.  The Mustangs have conceded just four goals in eight games this year, while scoing 47 times.

The Monroe College women’s soccer team returns to the pitch on Friday, October 16, when they face Schoolcraft College in Perrysbirg, Ohio.  The opening kick is scheduled for 11:00 AM.
