NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College men’s cross country team placed 34th out of 54 schools at the NJCAA Division I National Cross Country meet in Fort Dodge, Iowa on Saturday. Sophomore, Mpho Makofane was the standout runner for the Mustangs.
Makofaneclosed out his final NJCAA Collegiate CrossCountry race by earning Second Team All -American Award from the NJCAA.Makofane put up a quality time of 26:40.53 in the 8K race, placing him 40thin a field of 282 runners.
Other finishers of note for Monroe included Jaymes Dennison, whose clocking of 26:40.53 was a new personal best. Tevin Aitken posted a time of 30:47.80, Qasim Ray crossed the finish at 30:55.10, Rajay Hinds completed the course in 34:22.60 and Christian Patterson posted a mark of 36:35.00. Coach Shirvon Greene shared his thoughts on the race, “This was practically a brand new team from a year ago, and I am happy and proud of them for going out and giving it their best against the nation’s best.”
The 2015 season was truly a remarkable one for the Monroe College women’s cross country team. The 2016 season cannot get here quickly enough.
