NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The bond between a father and son is a special one, which is why the Iona Preparatory Lower School Fathers’ Club and Upper School Fathers’ Council are working together on the annual Father-Son Breakfast on Sunday, April 24. Part of the allure of this annual event is the ability to rub elbows with a member of the New York Giants. This year, the Gaels are honored to welcome special teams captain Zak DeOssie.
DeOssie is a long snapper selected by the Giants in the fourth round of the NFL Draft in 2007 out of Brown University. A year later he was a Pro Bowl selection, and again in 2010. He is also a two-time Super Bowl Champion, and even teed off with our supporters at the Lower School Golf Outing several years ago.
DeOssie’s father, Steve, also played for the Giants for a portion of his career. Big Blue fans will remember that Steve delivered the snap for Matt Bahr’s 42-yard field goal as time expired that gave the Giants a victory over the San Francisco 49ers in the 1990 NFC Championship Game. A week later, he started at left inside linebacker in the Giants’ Super Bowl XXV victory over the Buffalo Bills.
The day begins with a 9:30 a.m. Mass, followed by a 10:30 a.m. breakfast in the Tully Gymnasium. All dads, stepdads, grandfathers, uncles and male relatives special to our Gaels are welcome to attend.
