NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A real-life approach to cooking seasonally and locally will be provided by cookbook author and teacher Rinku Bhattacharya on Saturday, June 11, from 11:30 am – 12:15 pm, at the Farmer’s Market in Ruby Dee Park at Library Green and from 1:00 pm – 1:45 pm in the meeting room of the New Rochelle Public Library. In these free interactive presentations and cooking demonstrations, Ms. Bhattacharya will discuss essential Indian spices and their health benefits. She will also reveal how to incorporate the Indian flavors in a practical and accessible manner, with an emphasis on seasonal eating and green living. Her book, Spices & Seasons: Simple, Sustainable Indian Flavors will be available for purchase and signing. Registration for the demonstration in the library’s Meeting Room is is recommended. Rinku Bhattacharya is a Westchester based food writer, cookbook author and cooking teacher. Her first book, The Bengali Five Spice Chronicles (Hippocrene, 2012), won the Gourmand Award for the Best Indian Cuisine book in 2013. Her second book, Spices and Seasons: Simple, Sustainable Indian Flavors, was published by Hippocrene in 2014. In her blog, “Spice Chronicles,” Ms. Bhattacharya shares food facts, original recipes and news from her garden. She is assisted in her culinary efforts, by her gardener husband and two young children. Her weekly column, “Spices and Seasons,” appears in the “Small Bites” section of The Journal News.
