NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The College of New Rochelle women’s soccer team persevered through their inaugural season. They had some tough battles and circumstances to face in the beginning of the season, but the Blue Angels pulled together and had an outstanding performance for their first year. Captain Maria Alejandra Estupinan (Cali, Colombia) shared her thoughts on the past season by saying, “I am really proud of everyone and how far they have come and for sticking through with the season through all the challenges.”
The women’s soccer team put up a fight in their final game of the season against Yeshiva University, finishing with a final score of 3 – 4. In the first half the CNR Blue Angels fell short and ended the half with a 0 – 2 score, favoring Yeshiva. However, in the second half the Blue Angels rose up and fought. Freshman’s Jazmin Hernandez (Michoacan, Mexico) and Daniela Valencia (New Rochelle) each scored a goal making it a tie game. Yeshiva pushed two more on the board soon after taking the lead again at 2 – 4. In the final few minutes of the game CNR came back with another goal and held the game defensively after that. Although it was a tough loss this is one of the better performances the Blue Angels had during the 2017 season.
So we leave with this note “Take pride in how far you come. Have faith in how far you can go.” We look forward for women’s soccer program to only get better from here and endure, thrive and achieve more in the following seasons to come.
