NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona College men’s and women’s swimming & diving team hosted Monmouth on Friday afternoon in their final home meet of the fall semester.
The Gaels, swimming their first of two meets in a home-and-away format, came away with a pair of victories. The Iona men rolled to 171-100 win as the women fought hard for a 164-110 victory.
On the men’s side, there were 13 individual victories from nine individuals. The Gaels also fought to take both relay races.
Freshmen diver Eric Cruz took both the one and three meter events. Rookie Conor Mullin won the 200-Butterfly and 100-Freestyle and Gabriel Finch touched first in the 100-Fly and 100-Backstroke. Single winners include freshman Spencer Moran took the 500-Free while junior Matthew Bosse touched first in the 200-Back. A group of seniors took first in their respective races: Kyle Desrosiers in the 50-Free; Christian Foti in the 1000-Free; Zack Holbrook in the 200-Free, and Christopher Vadala in the 200-Breaststroke.
On the women’s side seven women combined for ten individual victories and two relay titles. Junior Jessica Schmidt was the day’s big winner with individual wins in the 100-Back, 100-Free and 100-Fly as well as anchoring the lead-off leg in the 200-Medley Relay.
Jusnimrat Kohli took both the one and three-meter diving events. Rookie Adrienne Bilello was first in the 200-Fly and 500-Free. Sophomore Alyssa Chain won the 50-Free while junior Maria DiBella touched home in the 200-Back. First-years Willow Lopez-Silvers touched first in the 200-Free and Kendal Paolicelli in the 200-Breaststroke. In her home town, senior Kaitlyn Mahon was victorious in th 1000-Free.
The win raises the men’s season dual meet mark to 4-1 and the women’s stand at 3-4.
The Gaels travel to Providence on Saturday, Nov. 11 to face the Friars.
