NEW ROCHELLE, NY (May 13, 2022)— Huguenot Academy, the alternative high school, has moved to140 Huguenot Street. Students and staff reported for their day at the new location today.
The space is sub-leased from Monroe College through to June 30, 2023.
The 16,500-square-foot space, approved by the Board of Education last October, will house 61 students but can accommodate more.
Huguenot Academy, formerly known as the Campus School, has had a nomadic existence over the few years after the District chose not to renew its lease of St. Gabe’s School with the New York Archdiocese after decades.
Originally announced to open on November 5, 2021, there have been numerous false starts due to a combination of unrealistic and uninformed expectations by the New Rochelle Schools Superintendent Jonathan P. Raymond, as well as, delays in readying the space and meeting facilities standards required by the New York State Education. We will have more on that in future articles.
Here is a quick video tour of the space as of May 2, 2022 — the day before a scheduled opening on May 3, 2022.
